Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP)

Montgomery Dermatology

This exciting aesthetic technique has multiple applications for Dermatology!

  • Promotes collagen production, regenerates tissue, and tightens skin : PRP utilizes your own body’s healing ability to stimulate skin recovery and boost collagen production
  • Treatment for hair loss in men and women: For hair loss, PRP appears to reduce the impact of DHT(dihydrotestosterone) on hairs that have the receptor for DHT. Many patients have seen a reversal of their hair loss or, at a minimum, a prevention of further hair loss.

We are excited to offer Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy, also known as PRP to our patients as an effective option for both anti aging as well as hair loss for men and women.

PRP can treat anything from fine lines and sun damage to deep wrinkles and acne scarring to hair loss. It requires a simple blood draw from the arm and uses a centrifuge to separate the platelets into platelet rich plasma.

We use PRP as a topical treatment in conjunction with mirconeedling or as superficial injections.

Downtime: Varies depending on procedure. Initial redness will occur in the treatment area and can last anywhere from 2-4 days.  Some patients heal in as little as 24 hours. Type of treatment is dictated by what condition we are treating. For instance, acne scars and deep wrinkles may experience more downtime.

Procedure time: Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy takes about 30-45 minutes depending on which areas are treated. We generally apply numbing cream prior to minimize any discomfort.

PRP is extremely safe and uses the healing powers of a patient’s own platelets. There are nineteen growth factors are released from the platelets and the rejuvenation occurs over the three months after the PRP is done. By capturing the body’s rejuvenating potential and placing it directly in the skin it can provide the maximal aesthetic benefit.

For anti-aging there is a clear textural improvement in the quality of skin that is noticeable to patients.

PRP can be used in combination with neuromodulators and hyaluronic acid fillers to produce optimal outcomes in aesthetic rejuvenation.

Please allow intervals of at least six weeks between PRP treatments, and the number of treatments will vary depending on the purpose of the treatment.

  • For eyelids and fine wrinkles: about 2 treatments
  • For melasma or for acne scars: three or four treatments
  • For hair loss: four to six treatments
